As the Be Bone Strong Team Captain, Barbara Hannah Grufferman, 65, a nationally recognized advocate for positive living, award-winning author, and an avid marathoner, will provide guidance and support for the team. To date, Barbara has run 14 marathons, and countless half-marathons, and other smaller races, all since turning 50. She’s passionate about motivating people to move more, and encourages everyone to focus on the health of their bones in order to age better. Barbara also serves as a BHOF Trustee and Bone Health Ambassador.

Dr. Justine Bernard received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons specializing in Neurological and Orthopedic Rehabilitation in 2003. She incorporates her experiences as a professional dancer and GYROTONIC® Master Trainer into her treatments. In combining the GYROTONIC® system with her knowledge of physical therapy, patients are able to transform their bodies from moving with restriction and unease to moving with freedom and joy.

Dr. Lisa Grimmer brings a love of fitness and movement to her physical therapy practice. She received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at George Washington University and is Pilates certified through Polestar Pilates for Rehabilitation. She has worked at both inpatient and outpatient settings, with orthopedic and neurologic rotations. Lisa finds joy in helping her patients achieve their goals and find sustainable solutions to continue their wellness journey beyond therapy.

Kids and teens need to learn how to maximize their bone health with exercise, nutrition, and mindfulness. The webinar will include exercise demonstrations with the goal of helping to prevent osteoporosis at the critical timeframe in life, and when it will have the greatest impact. This webinar is an excellent resource for parents and grandparents to share with their teens. These simple, fun tutorials can be downloaded onto a cellphone for easy practice anywhere.

Penelope Wasserman is the founder of Million Dollar Bones and a managing consultant at Changing Tastes. Penelope has been a featured presenter at the Meeks Method Annual conferences in Sundance, UT and Baltimore, MD -- where she first introduced Million Dollar Bones to the physical therapy community. In addition, during this timeframe she was a Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation (formerly the National Osteoporosis Foundation/NOF) support group leader in Albany, NY, where she started the first NOF Teen support group in the country.

If this is the case, it’s important that you try to manage these feelings and not allow osteoporosis to interfere with your regular activities. Spending time in nature can help relieve stress and anxiety, improve your mood, and boost feelings of happiness and wellbeing. Webinar attendees will learn more about how to de-stress in nature and the outdoors with Dr. Matt Weinburke. Participants will also engage in a mindfulness-guided imagery exercise with a nature setting.
